Princess Catherine received a lively welcome on the Isle of Bute, where a day among local communities eventually led to an unexpected and touching moment.
People reported that the trip marked William and Catherine’s first official visit to the Isle of Bute, including time in Rothesay, the town that shares a name with their Scottish royal titles.
Although they are widely known as the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine are styled the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay during official engagements in Scotland, according to Royal Central. William inherited the Duke of Rothesay title when King Charles III became monarch in September 2022.
Their First Shinty Attempts Did Not Go Quite to Plan
William and Catherine began their engagements at Bute Shinty Club, a volunteer-run organization founded in 1946. The couple were invited to try shinty, one of Scotland’s oldest traditional sports, taking turns striking a ball with a curved wooden stick called a caman.
