Lionel Richie is taking some time off after recently undergoing a medical procedure.
The “Hello” singer, 77, was hospitalized this week for heart issues in the midst of an ongoing Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, causing the acts to cancel their next three performances.
“Lionel underwent a common procedure for atrial fibrillation (AFib),” a rep for Richie tells PEOPLE in a statement. “The doctor said everything went perfectly.”
The rep adds, “Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon.”

Due to Richie’s hospitalization, his concerts with Earth, Wind & Fire previously scheduled for Sept. 26 in San Francisco, Sept. 30 in Chicago and Oct. 2 in Columbus, Ohio, are canceled.
Atrial fibrillation is “an irregular heart rhythm that begins in your heart’s upper chambers,” per Cleveland Clinic. The treatment, called an ablation, is a minimally invasive procedure that “creates scars to stop the electrical impulses that cause irregular heart rhythms” and helps to lower the risk of stroke.
TMZ was first to report the news.
