The Sussexes are rumoured to have settled down in the idyllic reigon, and Meghan has been going to great lengths to paint their UK return as nothing short of a fairtytale.
According to her old pal and biographer Omid Scobie, the Duchess once vowed to never step foot in the country again. Now, she is proudly waving the British flag – literally, with emojis – in her videos online.
So far, her Instagram Stories have been flooded with pictures of Archie and Lilibet lapping up countryside life, with one montage showing Harry driving a quadbike with the two children in tow and the family’s black Labrador Pula trotting behind.
Another shows Meghan and Harry on a serene woodland dog walk, with the Duchess eagerly swapping her heels for a pair of wellies.
But away from the not-to-subtle media briefings and sweet social media snaps, locals paint a more unfavourable picture. Here, we examine the contrasting narratives of Meghan’s England…
‘Beautiful welcome’
While she’s yet to join her husband on any official public outings, Meghan has been spotted at the pub with fellow expat Ellen DeGeneres, no less. Reports also suggest she’s been seen at Soho Farmhouse, a staple for the Cotswolds elite.
The Duchess’ longtime ‘bestie’ Kelly McKee Zajfen, who recently stayed with the Sussexes and tucked into a fish and chip pub lunch with her pal, says that Meghan has enjoyed a ‘beautiful’ welcome from the ‘loving’ British public.
Suggesting Meghan had repeatedly been told by people in the Cotswolds that she had been missed, Kelly gushed on Instagram last week: “She missed you too!'”.
